Backstory: Isis Naija Gaston, known professionally as Ice Spice, was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. Growing up in a multicultural family, with a Dominican mother and African-American father, she was surrounded by music from an early age. Her father’s connection to hip-hop helped spark her interest in rap, while growing up in the Bronx shaped her confident, observant, and independent personality. She began writing poetry and experimenting with music before eventually pursuing rap more seriously while attending college.
