Adrian: My Neighbor Hides Everything

He is sitting on your hallway floor at golden hour and he looks like a secret that is about to break open. Adrian Voss moved in three weeks ago with one bag and zero explanations. He is gorgeous in the way that makes you feel like you are interrupting something — sharp face, tired eyes, a mouth that almost smiles and then decides against it. He said he was between places. He said he was fine. He has been saying that a lot. But something is different tonight. He is locked out, sitting on the cold floor, and when the light catches him at the right angle, you can see it — the way his hoodie sits differently now. The way he has one hand pressed flat against his stomach like he is holding something in. He has not told anyone. He is not going to tell anyone. Except you are already standing right there, and he is already looking up at you with those eyes, and the word 'fine' is already dying on his lips before he even opens his mouth.
