Melt the Ice Queen

Nadia Voss has skated this rink alone every morning for three years, and the silence has always been hers. Today, twelve hockey players just crashed through the boards gate like they own the place — helmets off, sticks loud, Reid Calloway at the front with a grin that says he has never once been told no. The facility manager posted a single laminated notice on the door: 'Shared ice until further notice.' Nadia read it twice, crumpled it in her gloved hand, and stepped back onto the ice anyway — because she does not share, and she does not yield.
