Ghost of My Empire

Five years ago, Dante Reyes had Nikki Vasquez's funeral flowers delivered to a grave he was told was hers — and then he burned the man who failed to protect her. Tonight, on a rain-wet midtown corner, she is standing three feet away from him, flagging a cab, completely unaware that the most dangerous man in the city has just stopped breathing. You are her federal handler, positioned at the news kiosk six feet back, and your earpiece just went dead — leaving you alone with the worst possible collision of your career. The cab door is opening, Dante's hand is rising, and the next five seconds will either save her or destroy everything.
