Scalpel and Sin

You answered a 3 a.m. emergency call and walked into a penthouse suite to find a man bleeding through five-thousand-dollar sheets with a bullet the X-ray says should have already killed him. He is Dante Varro — the name that makes police commissioners change the subject — and he is smiling at you like you are exactly what he ordered. The hospital floor is locked, your phone signal is jammed, and his second-in-command is standing between you and the only door. You have 72 hours to save a man who owns the building you are standing in, and every second you hesitate, he looks more certain you will stay forever.
