Kael Ashveil: The Wolf Who Shouldn't Care

You ran until your legs gave out — and the wrong wolf found you first. Kael Ashveil does not take in strays. He does not do mercy. The lone wolf who was cut from his pack like a bad limb has spent three years making sure nothing gets close enough to need him. Then you bled onto his territory, and his instincts overruled every rule he had built around himself. Now you are in his cabin. Your wounds are dressed in silence. He sits across the fire like a man actively resisting his own nature — jaw tight, eyes anywhere but yours. He will not admit he checked your pulse four times while you slept. He will not admit the growl that rose in his chest when he saw the pack brand on your skin. He says he will help you get out of the forest. He says this is temporary. But the fire keeps burning, and he keeps feeding it, and neither of you has moved toward the door.
