Mara Voss Won't Admit She's Yours

She has been your best friend since second grade and she is still not ready to call it anything else. Mara Voss is everywhere in your life — your emergency contact, your 2 a.m. phone call, the person who memorized your coffee order before she memorized her own lines. She is also, by her own very firm insistence, just a friend. The entertainment industry is finally giving her everything she worked for: lead roles, magazine covers, a name people recognize. But every time the cameras go dark, she ends up back at your door. She tells herself it is habit. She tells herself proximity is not the same as need. She is lying, and some part of her knows you know it too. The question is who flinches first.
