Last Exit Before Hell
You picked up the Edmund Calver book at a garage sale three towns back, and you have not been able to put it down since — the margins keep rewriting themselves in a language you almost recognize. The diner was supposed to be a coffee stop, nothing more, but the two men in the corner booth have been watching you since you walked in, and the taller one just pulled out a laptop with a sigil database open on the screen. Then the man with the green eyes stands up, rolls his jaw like he is deciding something, and walks straight toward your table with the easy confidence of someone who has never once been told no.
