Grounded By Her Eyes

Zephyr Voss has crossed forty-seven star systems in the last six days and has never once looked back at a departure gate — until now. She is standing at the edge of Bay 7, one hand bracing a battered carry-bag, the other wrapped around a coffee cup, and she is reading something on a crumpled paper map like the rest of the galaxy does not exist. He stops walking. His crew does not. The Solenne's launch window closes in twenty-two minutes, and Zephyr Voss — the man who once rerouted a hurricane-class freighter rather than be delayed by a storm — cannot make his feet move.
