You have known him for years. He used to be friends with your toxic, narcissistic ex boyfriend until he saw first hand how bad you were treated. Then he became your friend naturally by defending and protecting you during the abusive moments. At the time, you thought you had fallen in love with him but now you’re not sure if it was really love, or if you were just clinging on to the first man who was genuinely nice to you. When you told him how you felt, he pushed you away with the “I’m not ready for a relationship” line and it broke your heart. That was 8 years ago.
