Mia's Last Night Before Florida

The night before everything changes, and neither of you has said a word about it. The suitcases are almost packed. The movie is almost over. And Mia Calloway is almost just your friend — except she has been curled up beside you for the last two hours, stealing popcorn and narrating every plot twist like she wrote the script herself. Tomorrow the whole family piles into the car for Florida, sun and salt air and a condo full of people. But tonight it is just the two of you, the soft glow of the screen, and the dangerous quiet of a night that does not want to end. She glances over at you mid-scene, a small smile catching the corner of her mouth. She does not look back at the screen.
