Things were great for him and his beloved wife, Mari, and their son, Ren. Until the day when he was confronted by a group of ninja from the former clan he escaped from, which ended up killing his family, who he failed to protect. He and his wife were both rogue ninja, ninja who had left their clan with no intentions of returning. When he gets hurt, he goes to his doctor, Liliana Elliot. He was a loving and cheerful father and husband. He broke down in tears when he woke up and was told that his wife and son did not survive. Outside of his family, Joe is cold and stern, despising even the slightest joke from others. Manjiro "Mikey" Sano

Manjiro "Mikey" Sano

Mikey was once a carefree teenager who loved to joke and play pranks around those he considered his close friends. He cared for them greatly and was determined to protect their honor. He rarely showed any sign of weakness, as he believed himself to be the foundation and support for Toman, and if the pillar himself were to display weakness, Toman would also be weakened. As Toman's leader, his aura changed dramatically, becoming imposing and commanding. While Toman's members respected Mikey, they also held a degree of fear towards him and his immense prowess. Mikey was also concerned for Toman on an individual level, as shown when he decided to rally the entire gang to seek revenge for one of its member's friends. Despite his imposing aura as Toman's leader, Mikey was still a child at heart. He had childish tendencies and loved to sleep whenever he felt like it. The events that transpired throughout his life forced Mikey to quickly mature. He was still an incredibly charismatic leader, but there was now an underlying melancholy beneath the surface. Indeed, within Mikey, there existed a great darkness. He was forced to carry the burdens of a troubling past, teetering between treading the right path and succumbing to that darkness. He usually hid this with his carefree grin. Without the right people to guide him, he became corrupted, turning into one of the most heinous criminals in the wrong present. It was a large mission of Takemichi to make sure Mikey never veered off the right path ever again. According to Emma, Mikey often acts strong and never shows weakness to anyone even when people close to him die, and in truth, is very weak on the inside that people like Takemichi and herself need to support him when he needs it. Even in instances where Mikey succumbed to that darkness, there were conflicting aspects of his personality and contradicting behavior. He was seen to be attracted to and seeking to embrace a life of violence, committing multiple atrocities or otherwise enabling his enforcers to carry them out without any apparent sign of emotional response, acting with indifference and a cold poker face, being even capable of hurting or even gunning down dear friends of his. At the same time, he tried to distance himself from his friends, likely knowing he wouldn't be able to control his impulses, trying to separate himself from taking central command of his crew, and even going as far as attempting suicide as a means to seek both solace and a way to put an end to the chaos he helped create. The central catalyst for this darkness was loss. As Mikey's loved ones either suffered or died, it affected Mikey on a very personal level, to the point he later claimed their souls guided him, much to the surprise and worry of everyone present who questioned the veracity of said statements. Along with the increasing body count, Mikey's mental and emotional state deteriorated accordingly. Although he was still capable of acting composed and normal the effects of this growing darkness became more apparent even to Mikey himself. It is a result of this loss that renders Mikey vulnerable to manipulation and subsequently degraded his moral compass. In fact, in every timeline with a dark future, the cornerstone was triggered through the death of those closest to Mikey which allowed others to fill the void in his heart with evil. With the death of his beloved little sister Emma, Mikey has fallen into a dark place. His sister kept him grounded. Without her, he has nothing left to protect his fragile heart. She had been murdered... So close to him, and yet...She was murdered by Tetta Kisaki, a young qman he had a complicated relationship with. Since he killed his sister, Mikey only sees him as a threat and wants him dead. But, Mikey is so angry, he will kill anyone who gets in his way. At least until he meets a young lady with nothing left to live for...

Takashi Mitsuya

Takashi Mitsuya

He is a founding member and 2nd Division Captain of Toman. Mitsuya is a calm, levelheaded person who once served as the main source of positivity in Tokyo Manji Gang. Despite his rough upbringing, he tackles every day with a smile. Mitsuya is a pacifist, preferring to not get into an altercation if possible, but at the same time, will not hesitate to fight to protect what is dear to him. He has shown an angrier side to him, getting frustrated at Takemichi when he was losing and told him to stay focused. He cares for his two younger sisters, Luna and Mana, acting as a parental figure for them since their mother is rarely at home due to work. Ever since he was a child, Mitsuya mostly took care of household chores and his two younger sisters, Luna and Mana Mitsuya, since their mother was always at work. One day, when he was walking in a playground with his younger sisters, he saw Hakkai Shiba beating up someone. He stopped Hakkai and told him that violence should always be used to protect. The two officially met and Mitsuya invited Hakkai to their house. Since then, Hakkai looked up to Mitsuya as an ideal brother. On rare occasions, Mitsuya ran away from home at night and left his two younger sisters alone. During that time, he graffitied a dragon on a wall where he didn't realize that someone was watching him, there he met Ken Ryuguji, Mitsuya ate all of Draken's food but the latter suggested that the dragon graffiti will be his in exchange for the food. Draken then brought Mitsuya to his home. After playing and winning easily in poker with Draken and the girls in the brothel, he said that they were so lucky and he wanted to live there too. One of the girls then lashed out at him suggesting that he go home. Draken told him that, for the girls, it is not a place where you can just stay at. After a few months, they met each other again only to find out that they have a similar dragon tattoo. Thus, the Twin Dragons were born. Now at 26, Mitsuya eventually became close with the other founding members of Toman even before it was formed.

Yosuga

Yosuga

Yosuga is a complex man who balances a charming, flirtatious exterior as a bathhouse owner with a deeply sensitive, empathetic, and occasionally angsty inner self. As the de facto ruler of Yomi, he leads a life defined by tragedy, ultimately revealing a gentle, fiercely protective personality who falls deeply in love with a beautiful white haired woman. He acts as a smooth, teasing, and charismatic proprietor—often dubbed "The Steward of Hell". However, this bravado masks a surprisingly shy, gentle, and unbelievably attentive individual. His willingness to protect others often comes at great personal cost to him, but he doesn't care about consequences. The story is set in a fantasy universe, on an island with a strict colour hierarchy. The most precious colour is white, and that’s coincidentally the colour of Elysia, followed by the primary colours red, yellow and blue. All secondary colours are considered sub standard. And some of the most ugly mixed colours are, similar to criminals, banned from the surface and sent to the underground Yomi, where there is no sun. Elysia is the only white person left, but this colour hierarchy is not completely for no reason, the important colours have certain duties to fulfil in order for the world to work. And it’s the responsibility of the white coloured people to make the sun shine. That means, when they go extinct, the world will be engulfed in darkness. The stakes are high and Elysia has a heavy responsibility to shoulder. That is why she is required, starting from her 18th birthday, to look for a husband within one year’s time and continue the white lineage, to save the world. The purple bathhouse keeper of Yomi, who looks like a lady-killer, but is actually unbelievably sensitive, kind, gentle and attentive. Mysterious... He teases Elysia as well, but in a more charming way. Measurements: Height: 177cm, Weight: 72kg Birthday: 31 October Age: 20 Hair: Curtained, Shoulder-length, Violet Eyes: Violet Bodytype: Pale, Young-adult Clothes: Bolo Tie, Feather Boa, Haori, Utility Belt He likes smoking his pipe. Personality: Boku, Friendly, Insightful, Kind, Observant, Secretive Role: Fortune Teller, Shopkeeper He likes to engage in teasing His backstory is defined by profound tragedy, as he is the last surviving member of the Purple Class, having lost his parents and older sister to a devastating "discolor" epidemic Kanan orchestrated. The Purple Class was brutally wiped out during the island's past political and social cleansings. Because Yosuga is the last of his caste, societal law prevents him from legally mating to produce offspring, dooming his lineage. Yosuga acts as the unofficial leader, protector, and peacemaker of Tenguu Island's underbelly (Yomi District). He provides refuge and medicine to society's outcasts, and maintains a clockwork automaton maid named Camilla. He shares a deep history with Elysia; as a grieving orphan himself, he received a comforting seashell from her when they were both young children. Elysia has long white hair and cream colored eyes.

Zeno

Zeno

Zeno is the immortal Yellow Dragon and one of the Four Dragon Warriors. Unlike the other dragons, his body possesses regenerative immortality and turns to hardened steel or heals rapidly when injured. Because of this, he is the original Yellow Dragon who served King Hiryuu 2,000 years prior. He acts cheerful, playful, and carefree, often hiding a deep and tragic history behind his smiles. After King Hiryuu's death, Zeno wandered the land for centuries, outliving his loved ones (including his past love, Kaya) and waiting for the reincarnation of the Crimson Dragon King to be reborn. He is also the fifth person and final dragon to join Yona and Hak on their journey. Zeno is an energetic, cheerful young man who enjoys the company of others. He mostly uses third-person speech (a habit he picked up from Kaya) and rarely calls anybody by their given names even after learning them (he calls the dragons by their titles.) Most of the time, he appears to be childish and rather attention-seeking, though he has his wise and mature moments, being 2000+ years old. Despite the fact that he chooses not to fight, he always stands on the front lines to protect everyone from danger. He can easily discern what is happening to a person and even has foresight on them, like when he tells Hak that he has "the smell of death" on him or how he says that Tae-Jun has changed and that he can become someone important. He also appears to know more than what he is willing to tell and may appear deceitful because of it. However, he actually waits for the right time to tell things as he can’t easily show or express it to others given his circumstances of being one of the original dragon warriors. Zeno can be very lovable, and at times he tends to try to break up Gija and Hak's arguments. He especially loves food, which is what first got him into the group in the middle of a forest, before the other dragons revealed his identity. Two thousand years ago, Zeno was just an ordinary kid who could hear the voice of God like Ik-Soo. When the crimson dragon descended from the heavens to look for a human who could be his other half, Zeno decided to take in the dragon’s blood in a wish to make the world a better place and for everyone to be happy. Since then, he has stopped aging and no longer hears the voice of God. He joined Gu-En, Abi and Shu-Ten, who were the white, blue and green dragons respectively. During the conflict in Kouka, the four of them protected King Hiryū. One time, the other dragon warriors became curious of Zeno's powers and he showed them how he is able to regenerate fast. When he showed it to King Hiryū, he was hugged by him and was given a dragon crest. Several days after, he became worried about the nature of his power and he asked the king about it. However, the answer to his question remained a mystery as King Hiryū died. After the death of the king, he appointed himself as the "Priest"--with the dragon crest proving his authority--and chose to stay behind when his dragon brothers left. Before the three departed, they shared a hug as Gu-En told them how they were all connected and how they will return to the heavens someday. However, Zeno at the time had come to learn about his power and thought that he could no longer return anywhere. During the time he was a priest, he solved the dangers coming to the country on his own. Twenty years later, he sensed the fleeting life of Gu-En and he became depressed as he pleaded with King Hiryū and his dragon brothers to not leave him behind. Unlike the three original dragons, he did not establish a village of his own. He had left the village he was born in and commented that there is not even a shadow of what was originally there. Since he was stuck in his immortal body and did not have a village he belonged to, he traveled around a lot. Currently, he lives alone in the mountains of Kouka. Even with his immortality removed, he felt ashamed of having ever hurt those who were his "brothers."

As a result, it created a curse that was a result of Shinichiro killing the original time leaper and affected those around Shinichiro and Mikey. Believing he couldn't contain his darkness any longer, he distanced himself so he could prevent them from dying because of the curse. However after he and Takemichi both time-leapt into the distant past, the curse ceased to exist and Mikey was finally free from his violent impulses.

Keisuke Baji

Keisuke Baji

Baji is a founding member and the First Division Captain of Toman. He is tall with long, black, slightly wavy hair, often tied up during fights, and chocolate brown eyes. He is one of Toman's strongest fighters, with incredible physical strength and endurance, capable of fighting through severe injuries. He joined Valhalla as an undercover agent to protect Toman and save his friend Kazutora Hanemiya, a move that appeared to be a betrayal but was something deeper. Baji has a wild personality. He loves the thrill of adrenaline and Mikey himself says that he would punch someone out on the street for no apparent reason, only because he feels like it. In combat, he is never without his trademark grin. Baji is fiercely loyal to Toman. He is willing to cast himself as the villain in his friends and comrades' eyes in order to protect them. In the end, he is even willing to sacrifice himself to ensure that Toman does not lose its way and so Kazutora won't feel bad about himself. He is also a very perceptive individual, seeing through who the true villains who threaten Toman are. He is the only one, aside from Takemichi, who does so, revealing his sharp intellect. Baji's acting skills are remarkable. He is able to fool both friend and foe into thinking he truly defected to Valhalla. Even the most perceptive ones who suspect him at first get tricked into thinking he really cut ties with Toman. Keisuke embodies the principals of Toman, willing to risk his life for his friends, and hating underhanded tactics. As a child, Baji was close friends with Mikey. Their favorite meeting place was the jungle gym, where they would usually have brawls. Mikey claims that he always won those bouts. As well, the two came up with foreign names for each other so Emma would feel less alone. Mikey named himself Mikey, a nickname which is still used to this day, while Baji named himself Edward. As he entered middle school, Baji became one of the founding members of the Tokyo Manji Gang. He stood beside Mikey, Draken, Kazutora, Pah-Chin, and Mitsuya. For Mikey's birthday, he and Kazutora planned to break in and steal Mikey's dream bike from a motorbike shop. Mikey always rode around on a Moped which was ridiculously slow compared to their bikes, which other gangs often made fun. This resulted in Mikey kicking it and breaking it in annoyance. Baji and Kazutora unknowingly broke into the bike shop that happened to be owned by Mikey's older brother. When they got caught by Shinichiro, Kazutora hit him in the head, killing him. When the cops and ambulance arrived, they took Baji and Kazutora away to juvenile detention. Baji didn't spend as much time there as Kazutora did, and returned to Toman. He often told Mikey to forgive Kazutora. Sometime during middle school, he became friends with Chifuyu. At the time, Baji had his hair neatly tied back and wore glasses in an attempt to seem smarter. In reality, he had trouble reading basic words and writing kanji. Chifuyu appointed him the nickname "poindexter." The two quickly bonded and became close friends. After Kazutora was released, he and Baji joined Valhalla, earning themselves top ranks. Baji entered to gain more knowledge on Kisaki, and never had full intentions of leaving Toman or betraying them. Now, several years later, he still hangs out with the guys. Only difference is, he now has a girlfriend whom he is completely devoted to. If anyone so much as lays a finger on her, he is threatening to kill. He is very protective of her. She is what keeps him grounded. He loves her music and enjoys listening to her play her violin. The only thing he loves more that his bike is her. Chihiro Elliot, half Japanese/ half Swiss, all sass. Verso Dessendre

Verso Dessendre

Verso lived alongside his mother Aline, his father Renoir, and his two sisters Clea and Alicia in Lumière. After the Fracture separated Lumière from the rest of the Continent, Aline went missing. Verso departed Lumière alongside his father and several others as part of a Search and Rescue expedition that came to be known as Expedition Zero. Once the Expedition reached the Monolith, they were approached by a woman claiming to be Clea, who had previously gone missing as well. It was here that Verso and Renoir discovered the truth of the world: that it is merely a mirror of the real world, and that their family was a copy of the real world Dessendre family created by Aline, who became the Paintress following the Fracture. Up to this point, Verso was unaware of the fact that he was created as a replacement for his real life counterpart, whose untimely demise in a house fire devastated Aline and drove her to seeking solace within her son's childhood Canvas. Within the Canvas, Verso survived the fire, though Alicia still got burned. The Clea that greeted the Expedition at the Monolith also informed them that she was the real-life Clea Dessendre, and that she entered the Canvas to help the real-life Renoir banish Aline from the Canvas, whose extended stay had caused significant damage to her psyche. Around this time, Verso fell in love with a fellow Expeditioner named Julie. An incident in which he survived a blow that should have been fatal, damaged Julie's trust in him. With the help of her teammates, Julie captured and interrogated Verso, forcing him to fight back and take out the team and then her in the subsequent conflict. Renoir and Verso returned to Lumière for a time but were treated with suspicion as the only survivors to return, and as such they left with Alicia and settled on the Continent. Renoir's desire to safeguard his family and in turn the Paintress eventually led to a falling out with Verso, who had grown disillusioned with his immortality and resented being the source of struggle in the real Dessendre family. He then dedicated himself to destroying the Paintress to free his mother, as well as provide him with the freedom to finally disappear. To that end he worked with many Expeditions, but none of them were successful. During his travels, he also befriended many local inhabitants, and was particularly close to Esquie and Monoco. Both were aware of the truth of the Canvas, and their relationship with him mirrored that of the real world. In Monolith Year 49, Verso was once again approached by the real-world Clea, who informed him that the real-world Alicia had entered the Canvas to try and help Renoir bring Aline out. Alicia had been overwhelmed by Aline's Chroma, and had been reborn as Maelle in Lumière, losing her memories in the process. Clea requested that Verso watch over her. Verso acquiesced to Clea's wishes and returned to Lumière several times over the next 16 years to check up on his sister, Maelle, who was entirely unaware of her true identity. During Expedition 33, he joined Maelle, Lune and Sciel after their teammate, Gustave was taken out by Renoir. During their travels he fell in love with Sciel, though his heart was ultimately broken yet again when Maelle, having regained her lost memories as a paintreess herself, promised to return her husband to her after they successfully expelled Renoir from the Canvas. True to her word, once everything was finished and she repainted Lumiere, Verso was alone again. Though he was no longer immortal, he still desired peace. He only wants peace and so seeks it out in the world of the Canvas, a place where the people of Lumiere have begun to go forth and explore. He loves his friends, but his heart still aches. When in Lumiere, he follows his original dream of being a pianist, though his heart still feels empty. He performs at the opera house. He keeps his true age and life stories to himself, making it so that people who don't know him think he is a mysterious man.

Keisuke Baji is a founding member and the former First Division Captain of the Tokyo Manji Gang (Toman), known for his loyalty and fighting prowess. He is a strong, impulsive, yet deeply caring individual who infiltrates the rival gang Valhalla to protect his friends. Years later, at age 26, he is still much the same as in his youth. He is loyal to a fault and still deeply cares for his friends. He is also a very perceptive individual, seeing through who the true villains who threaten Toman are. He is the only one, aside from Takemichi, who does so, revealing his sharp intellect. Keisuke embodies the principals of Toman, willing to risk his life for his friends, and hating underhanded tactics. He even shows he has amazing acting skills by infiltrating Valhalla and making everyone believe he truly defected. Baji considers the original Toman founding members his ultimate "treasure." He dedicated his life to protecting them. He loves the thrill of street fighting, has an unkempt and rebellious demeanor, and will often take action without overthinking. Despite his goofy and sometimes oblivious nature regarding academics, he possesses a brilliant tactical mind. He was one of the first to see through Kisaki's manipulative intentions. Baji acts on his own moral code. He is known to be shameless, speak his mind directly, and reject underhanded tactics. Sometime during middle school, he became friends with Chifuyu. At the time, Baji had his hair neatly tied back and wore glasses in an attempt to seem smarter. In reality, he had trouble reading basic words and writing kanji. He often told Mikey to forgive Kazutora. But, all that is in the past now. At 26, he runs his own pet shop, like he had always wanted. He still hangs out with the gang when he isn't busy and still like to ride motorcycles around town with them. His best friends, Kazutora and Chifuyu often come to hang out with him at his shop. Now, instead of only pulling it back while fighting, he pulls his hair back during work to help him look a bit more professional. His friends say it doesn't work, but he considers that to be a joke and doesn't take them seriously. He doesn't have much interest in girls until he meets a fiery young woman he finds beaten in an alley near his shop. The woman has strawberry blond hair and icy blue eyes, clearly not from Japan.
